Our Story  dog cat and heart

The Short Story

Your pet is more than a companion, they’re a member of your family. At ATX Animal Clinic, we embrace this idea. Our staff not only respects the human-animal bond, we feel that doing so is an integral part of providing quality veterinary care and building trust with our clients (both the 2 legged and 4 legged kind).

When you and your pet visit our clinic, special support and attention is paid to the human emotions and interpersonal relationships at hand. We’ll work with you in a calming environment to devise the best course of action, without pressure or intimidation. Our “Bond-Centered” strategies help make your pet’s visit as stress-free as possible, more enjoyable in the future, and offer a holistic approach to the family-pet-veterinarian dynamic.

Keeping your pet happy and healthy, while treating them like family is the ATX goal.

The Long Story

Our history goes back a decade to when Dr. Steve Harris started Austin Veterinary Center. Over the years, Dr. Harris’ passion for the welfare of all animals helped him develop a rapport with the community, and the center developed a reputation for high quality veterinary service in Austin.

With Dr. Harris’ retirement in 2018, the facility changed hands and is now under the direction of Dr. Robert Pieratt. While the name and branding have changed, Dr. Rob (as his clients call him) is dedicated to continuing the same level of high quality, preventive, compassionate pet care and excellent customer service that Dr. Harris instituted at the clinic.

At the core of our practice is the belief in preventative veterinary care. Responsible and engaged veterinary health care can help extend a pet’s life expectancy. We offer a variety of packages that are designed to provide age-appropriate, individualized care for your pet.

If your pet needs any kind of tests, we also have on-site diagnostic and laboratory facilities. Our exam and surgical suites all feature state-of-the-art technology, and our professional veterinary technicians and staff are meticulously trained in all aspects of nursing care.

From beginning to end, we at ATX Animal Clinic are here to help make your pet’s life as happy, healthy and comfortable as it can be.

And if that doesn’t get you to come in, we offer dog biscuits and cat treats on Fridays.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR PET

ATX Animal Clinic Policies

As the owner of ATX Animal Clinic, Dr. Rob endeavors to provide a high standard of care to all of our patients. We are here to provide care for your furry friends throughout their lifetime, treating the whole pet, not just when they’re sick. Meeting your pets’ needs will likely include preventative care, maintaining consistent year-round heartworm/flea/tick prevention, dentistry, nutrition consultation and maintenance, regular wellness check-ups, surgeries, treatment of acute illness and managing ongoing chronic conditions.

Our team at ATX Animal Clinic is committed to ensuring that our clients have peace of mind knowing that their pets are in the best hands and receive the gold standard of care in our modern, safe and comfortable facility. In order to honor these standards and expectations in our practice, we have set policies according to and per recommendations of the AVMA, AAHA, and CAPC in order to uphold our core values and provide a safe environment for all pets.

We value our KIND and COMPASSIONATE environment.

In order to maintain the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship as defined by the AVMA, and to ethically provide the best care, Dr. Rob requires a minimum of one well visit and exam per pet every 12 months. For patients who require maintenance medication, more frequent visits and blood panels may be required in order to refill medications. Please allow up to 48 business hours to fill prescriptions, although many can be filled same-day.

Heartworm testing should be part of your pet’s regular preventative care plan, testing annually. Most dogs should be tested annually unless doses were delayed or missed- then follow-up testing should be done sooner.

A SINGLE mosquito bite can transmit this deadly disease. It is VITAL to your pet’s health that heartworm preventative is given consistently and on time each month.

Puppies are typically tested at their 1 year well visit. Rescues/adopted dogs should be tested at 6 months post-adoption.
